Mental Health Care Nurses

A mental health nurse is a registered nurse who specialises in working with people who have a mental illness like depression, postnatal depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or psychosis. Though the focus is on mental health care, a mental health nurse actually works with someone to help them manage their life and it might include helping with any physical, social, cultural and spiritual needs.

At QualityCare Nursing, our Mental Health care nurses are trained to work with their patients to promote psychological well-being and emotional health and physical well-being. They are experienced in working with their patients to understand their mental health conditions, to learn how to manage their symptoms and be aware of what can aggravate their mental health condition. Our mental health care nurses work in various care facilities as well as homes of patients.

General duties of a Mental Health Care Nurse include:

  • Participate in plan for the patient’s recovery
  • Provide counselling and strategies to deal with emotional difficulties and stress
  • Help patients deal with their symptoms and any medication they take
  • Help patient access support services from Services Australia, or housing and community programs
  • Help patients review your mental health care plan with your doctor
