Registered nurse standards for practice

The practice of a registered nurse (RN) is person-centered and evidence-based, with components of prevention, cure, formative, supportive, restorative, and palliative care. RNs work with individuals, families, groups, and communities in therapeutic and professional partnerships. These individuals may be healthy and have a wide range of abilities, or they may be suffering from physical or mental illness, as well as other health difficulties. Physical, psychological, developmental, and/or intellectual disability can all cause difficulties.

Working in a direct non-clinical relationship with clients, management, administration, education, research, advisory, regulatory, policy development, or other roles that have an impact on the safe, effective delivery of services in the profession and/or use of the nurse's professional skills are all examples of this practice. RNs are in charge of independent practice in dynamic systems and in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.

Within person-centered and evidence-based frameworks, RNs employ a variety of thinking processes and the best available evidence to make decisions and provide safe quality nursing care.
